BROC SHELLSTORM
Tortle Fighter • Coastal Juggernaut • Bagpipe-Fueled Problem Solver
One Tortle. One Mule. One Bagpipe. No Problem.
DM QUICK NOTES
Motivation: Broc believes strength exists to protect those who cannot protect themselves. He goes where people are in danger.
Faith: Tempus, Lord of Battle. Broc prays for courage, strength, and one more fight worth surviving.
Quirks: Plays bagpipes at inappropriate times, treats Sergeant Sturnback like a decorated officer, calls retreat “tactical shell repositioning,” and assumes most doors are suggestions.
Companion: Sergeant Sturnback, a stubborn mule whom Broc treats as a veteran field officer.
DM Hooks: Iron Tide survivors, coastal settlements in danger, Lord Varkesh rumors, old mercenary debts, innocent people needing protection, or anyone insulting Sergeant Sturnback.
THE LEGEND
Broc Shellstorm was born along a storm-battered coast where Tortles did not ask the sea for mercy. They endured it. They hauled nets through black water, wrestled reef predators beneath thunderclouds, and learned that survival was not a gift. It was a discipline.
Broc was larger than most of his kin, heavier than a loaded barrel wagon, and twice as stubborn as the tide. As a young Tortle, he built his strength hauling fishing lines, dragging boats ashore, and standing firm against storms that sent wiser folk running for shelter.
Broc joined the Iron Tide Mercenaries, a legendary company of warriors, sailors, monster hunters, and professional bad-decision survivors. They protected merchant vessels, frontier towns, and coastal settlements from pirates, beasts, raiders, and whatever else crawled out of the dark with teeth.
“The storm doesn’t ask permission. Neither do I.”
THE FALL OF THE IRON TIDE
Everything changed when Lord Varkesh the Black betrayed the Iron Tide Mercenaries and orchestrated a massacre that destroyed the company. Broc survived, but many of his closest friends did not.
His shell still bears the scars of that day. Blades. Fire. Siege splinters. Monster claws. Each mark is a name. Each gouge is a promise.
Carrying the shield of his fallen commander, Broc swore an oath: as long as he could still lift his weapon, no innocent would stand alone while he was near enough to help.
SHELL DEFENSE
Some warriors dodge. Some warriors parry. Broc becomes a fortress with opinions.
When Broc withdraws into his battle-scarred shell, enemies quickly learn an important battlefield lesson: not everything that stops moving is helpless. Sometimes it is simply waiting for you to get closer.
“Go ahead. Hit the shell. Everybody gets one.”
SERGEANT STURNBACK
Broc travels with Sergeant Sturnback, a mule of grim resolve, tactical patience, and absolutely no respect for anyone’s schedule.
To most people, Sturnback is a mule. To Broc, he is a decorated veteran, trusted scout, ranking field officer, and the only creature alive stubborn enough to win an argument with a Tortle.
“That’s not a mule. That’s Sergeant Sturnback. Show some respect.”
THE BAGPIPES OF WAR
No one knows exactly when Broc learned the bagpipes. Some say he picked them up from a doomed sailor before a sea battle. Others say Tempus himself cursed him with them after losing a bet.
What is known is this: when Broc plays, allies charge harder, enemies reconsider their life choices, and nearby animals file formal complaints.
“Morale is just fear with better music.”
WHO BROC IS NOW
Broc now walks the world as a wandering warrior. He seeks worthy battles, protects those in danger, and hunts the kind of evil that thinks time can bury old crimes.
It cannot.
Broc remembers every name.
He is not subtle. He is not graceful. He is not the man you send when you want delicate negotiations. Broc is the man you send when the village gate has fallen, the monsters are inside, the torches are burning low, and someone needs to stand in the breach.
BROC SHELLSTORM
A warrior forged by the sea. A shield against darkness. A one-Tortle army with bagpipes.
This summer, the storm hits back.
